Wonderful Mediterranean Gardens

You should recognize that a holidays on the Costa Brava is more than eating fried squid or Patatas bravas in the “Chiringuito playero”, more than sunbathing and more than drinking gin tonics very late at night. There are magical places, usually related to the sea, where people of all the sensitivities can have a good time enjoying the surroundings.One of these unique places are the botanical gardens. If you wake up one day and you feel inspired, you can go to one of these mini-paradises where you can relax while enjoying the beauty of the plants with the sea on the horizon.

On the Costa Brava there are four botanical gardens:

Pinya de Rosa

The botanical garden Pinya de Rosa in Blanes and Lloret. Here you will find especially tropical species, like aloes, algaves and cactus. Among others, you will see how these species have adapted to the Mediterranean climate.
These plants came from the private collection of Fernando de Caralt Riviére and in the past the garden used to have more than 7000 species.
TIMETABLE: Monday to Sunday, from 9:00 to 19:00.

Marimurtra

In Blanes, you can find the Marimurtra. Some people consider it the best Mediterranean Botanical Garden in Europe. It is an impressive biological station of more than 16 hectares of extension. The main route takes about an hour, and there is a rest area where you can buy some drinks. During the visit you can find places to rest, some drinking fountains and different viewpoints to look at the sea.

April, May and October: Monday to Sunday, from 9:00 to 18:00.
June to September: Monday to Sunday, from 9:00 to 20:00.
November to March: Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 17:00.

Santa Clotilde

In Lloret de Mar, Santa Clotilde is a hectares garden, declared Heritage of Cultural Interest. It is located on a cliff overlooking the sea, between the Cala sa Boadella Beach and Fenals Beach in Lloret de Mar. You will be surprised by the great variety of plants. In the mansion of the garden you can enjoy a visit to the collections of paintings, tapestries,ceramics and miniature ships.
TIMETABLE:
April to September: Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 20:00
October 13th to March: Monday to Sunday, from 10: to 17:00.
Last admission: 1 hour before closing time.

Jardins de Cap Roig

Finally, the Jardins de Cap Roig in Calella de Palafrugell, another of the best botanical gardens in the Mediterranean. You will enjoy with the more than 500 catalogued species of trees and plants from five continents thanks to its favorable climatic conditions. The location, next to the sea and protected from the North wind (tramontana), helps to grow well all these plants. This garden, acquired by la Caixa de Girona a few years ago, now hostst the famous Festival Jardins de Cap Roig.

April to September: Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 20:00.
October to March: Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 18:00.
January and February: Saturday and Sunday, from 10:00 to 18:00.
